Wow! Summer ran out on us like a fickle friend. I’m freezing my buns off this morning. Yesterday we got the fire going in the wood stove. It’s great, it keeps the main part of the house toasty warm all winter. The bedrooms stay cool and when the heat doesn’t kick on at all . . . cold! My hubby and I have what I lovingly refer to as thermal incompatibility. I’m always hot and he’s always cold. Hmmm, I’ll have to make up for him having to sleep in the arctic . . . what to do? Ah ha, make soup. Soup is a labor of love. The best ones simmer on the stove all day and fill the home with a wonderful aroma. I have a plethora of cook books but I rarely use them. The computer is now my go to place for good and unusual recipes and my favorite spot is http://www.epicurious.com/recipesmenus/
I’ve gotten some of my new favorites from there. Since I have a bunch of butternut squash from the waning days of this years garden, butternut squash soup will be on the menu tonight. They have a recipe for Farmhouse Butternut Squash Soup that is very good. I made this once before and my husband liked it. I can do without the bacon in it. Check out the site and the recipes. I think you will like it. While you’re at it, post your favorite soup recipe to this site as a reply. It’s that time of year. Happy fall!
